Filter Scientific Coatings: Environmentally Safe Chinese Drywall Remediation

Filter Scientific Coatings: Environmentally Safe Chinese Drywall Remediation

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) March 12, 2011

Tainted Chinese Drywall has been the nightmare of many Southeastern homeowners for some time now. Much of the tainted drywall emits a foul sulfur odor, which creates tough living conditions. A thoroughly researched product known as Filter Interceptor just may be the solution. According to the Managing Member of Filter Scientific Coatings, Jay Wells, “… after our process is completed, the homeowners walk into a breath of fresh air”.

Chinese Drywall Remediation using Filter Interceptor OC requires the homeowner to evacuate their home for a minimum of three days for the 2-part process to be completed. According to John Rider, a Filter Partner, “The process can be completed within a week depending on the size of the home and any atypical floor plans”. The process treats the drywall from the inside and out. Step one of the treatment is to have the wall cavities impregnated with a non-toxic organic compound that absorbs and neutralizes the odors and all low level emission from the wall cavities. Once this application is complete a water-based coating is applied on the outside of the walls to absorb any emissions created by the Chinese drywall into the living spaces. There should be no confusion that this is NOT a method of encapsulation; however, just the opposite.

The cost to have a home remediated with Filter Interceptor is one quarter (or less) the cost it would take to have the tainted drywall removed and replaced with new drywall. This alone saves the homeowner tens of thousands of dollars and in some cases in excess of $ 100,000.00 as compared to demolishing the home. Rick Greene, a Filter Partner, states, “The home can be re-occupied in as few as five days with the confidence of a lifetime transferable warranty”.

Filter Interceptor is an environmentally safe product that is non-carcinogenic, contains no halogen, formaldehyde, or solvents and is low to zero VOC.

Filter Interceptor was founded on the concept of assisting homeowners remediate their homes completely and satisfactorily within a reasonable timeframe for a reasonable cost.

Green Energy Tax Breaks For Your Home

We all know about the big talk about global warming and everything that goes along with it. Not everyone agrees whether or not our actions our impacting the environment. No matter how you feel about global warming, you should be looking into making your home green.  Why? Because making your home environmentally friendly makes your house more efficient. And the best part about it is: the government is paying people to make their homes environmentally friendly.

Tax breaks for going green not only are great for the environment, but great for your wallet as well.  Green Tax credits combined with savings from an energy efficient home can be a great way to see more money in your wallet. For tax years 2009 and 2010, taxpayers can receive up to a 30% percent tax credit towards improvements and upgrades spent on home energy efficiency. The unfortunate thing is that many people have not filed these credits who qualify for their green energy tax credits.

Along with the federal tax credits and deductions, many states are offering rebates for those who opt to go Green. Additionally, many manufacturers are offering steep discounts as well as rebates for consumers who purchase products to improve their homes.

Many taxpayers lose out because they do not take advantage of all the green tax credits that are available to them. You still have plenty of time to take advantage of earning the tax credits by transforming your home into a green energy household.

“Greenest of the Green” Campaign Launched by Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association (CIMA)

“Greenest of the Green” Campaign Launched by Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association (CIMA)

Dayton, Ohio (PRWEB) October 7, 2008

The Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association (CIMA) launches “Greenest of the Green” industry campaign in conjunction with a new industry website (http://www.cellulose.org ) to educate consumers, architects, builders and contractors about Cellulose Insulation — the insulation with the lowest “embodied energy,” the highest recycled content and excellent performance.

The Greenest of the Green campaign is the industry’s effort to work with charities to provide the highest performing and most environmentally friendly insulation material to those who really need it. Programs have already been started with the donation of material and installation services to Habitat for Humanity.

With the rapidly rising cost of energy, more and more people are aware of the importance of insulating their homes and businesses to save money. But not all of them are aware of the significant impact their decisions can make on the environment by selecting cellulose as their insulation of choice.

The “Greenest of the Green” campaign’s environmental highlights include the facts that:

Cellulose has the lowest estimated “embodied energy” of any insulation product. “Embodied Energy” is the energy required to produce and transport materials. Fiberglass, common insulation in homes, has 10 times more embodied energy and foam products have up to 64 times more embodied energy than Cellulose insulation.
Cellulose has the largest amount of recycled content in the industry – up to 85% post-consumer recycled newspaper. Utilizing recycled paper is less energy than other manufacturing process for insulation. In addition, paper is the largest component of landfills and using this paper to produce cellulose insulation diverts waste from the landfills preserving valuable landfill space.
Cellulose insulation prevents the release of “greenhouse” gases (methane) which is released when newspaper decomposes in landfills.
Cellulose earns LEED and US Green Building credits for green construction. Architects and builders can earn credits towards certification under both the LEED and US Green Building green building programs.
Cellulose insulation can be locally produced. Local recycling programs and processing brings new meaning to the old slogan “Think Globally, Act Locally.” In addition to saving transportation costs, local recycling can be used as a fund-raising tool to help local community groups.

By increasing cellulose usage in homes and businesses, the environment can be positively impacted by:

using less energy in production
utilizing recycled content
minimizing greenhouse gas emissions by diverting newspaper from landfills
helping local communities in fund raising and “downcycling” landfill materials
delivering financial and energy savings

“We feel that the Cellulose story has not been fully explained to consumers, contractors and architects and we aim to correct that,” said Lea. “While any insulation is better than none we believe strongly that the choice of cellulose is ‘Greener’ than others.”

Besides the environmental advantages, the product performance of cellulose has been proved in a variety of studies to offer better results than fiberglass and foam.

better R-Value performance in areas with wide temperature variations
better sound insulation
better resistance to mold and
better fire protection.

Green lawn care

Green lawn care takes a lot more effort and attention to detail. This should start right from the lawn formation, where the home owner should select his seeds depending on their horticultural and functional requirements. As such, the homeowner should consider the use of the lawn, watering requirements, sun exposure, winter color and the overall surface appearance. Usually, the lawn is naturally green during spring. As such, all the home owner needs to do is ensure that the lawn is mowed frequently and to the ideal height. In other seasons like fall and summer, a lot more work is needed to ensure that the homeowner maintains a green lawn.

Considering that green lawn care today accounts for a huge percentage of domestic water usage, it is apparent that lawn maintenance is a chore that drains not only water, but the owner’s money in water bills. To minimize this, the homeowner should try to position his lawn on places where the lawn can benefit from direct rainfall. During seed selection, one should also go for the drought-resistant types to minimize water use. Mulch also helps in green lawn care since the rate of direct sunshine hitting the ground is minimal thus reducing the rate of soil moisture evaporation.

Mowing is a vital exercise in green lawn care. Grass cycling is especially useful in ensuring that the turf is not only green, but tougher too. This is achieved by using mulching blades on the mower as opposed to the standard mower blade. Grass cycling also eliminates the need to use chemical fertilizers on the lawn since it provides sufficient nitrogen for the lawn. In addition, the mulch covers the earth and therefore helps cut the water requirements of the lawn considerably. More on Spring lawn care.

Effective green lawn care involves understanding the right lawn watering methods. Having noted that lawns account for a huge percentage of domestic water use, it is also worthy noting that most of this water goes to waste. This happens because of raid water application or watering the lawn too often. Rapid water application means that the ground does not get sufficient time to absorb the water. As such, a large amount of the water is wasted as runoff. Watering at the wrong time, especially when the sun is overhead means that the water moisture is lost to evaporation without benefiting the lawn much. As opposed to this type of watering, the homeowner should learn to water the lawn early in the morning or late in the evening to allow the earth to absorb as much water.

Green lawn care also involves controlling pests that may affect the healthy growth of the turf. The first step towards this is ensuring that the soil in the lawn is healthy. The healthy soil will be able to withstand lawn diseases and insect infestation. It also encourages beneficial insects such as ground beetles, green lacewings and praying mantis on the lawn. Such keep the harmful insects that damage lawns away. Caring for a green lawn also requires one to de-thatch. A thatch higher than ½ inches is a nemesis to any homeowner’s effort at keeping the lawn green. As such, the homeowner needs to rake the lawn to remove the excess thatch. When all is done, the reward of all the effort one puts into caring for the green lawn is that he or she will have a beautiful lawn, which will probably be the envy of many.
